is an open-source network sniffer developed by Network ICE. It copies or clones the FBI’s infamous carnivore system, to educate the public on the internal workings of carnivore and the privacy and security issues involved with the system. It also helps protect computer from hackers attack.
It snoops a network to monitor the e-mail traffic in both the header and content, monitor individual’s accesses to certain types of server such as web, FTP etc. and IP address discovery and packet sniffing of the address.

What's Special about Altivore

Altivore uses special packet decoding technique that collects just one stream of data which avoids the possibility of violating the privacy of users on the network who were not being targeted. With Altivore, the disclosure of source code could probably decrease invasion to users who were not being targeted.
